Session 4

What Professional Development happens in your workplace? 
What strategies does your organization have in place to encourage development, change and innovation?

I had been working for the HKUGA to organize the Confucius Carnival 2012 which is one of the biggest public event in Hong Kong. It is held once a year and locate on Causeway Bay. Most of the celebrities as well as honorable guest from different government departments will come and support. Moreover, there lots of artists and performance team come and perform. All the performances are all related to chinese culture. 

The event was held on 4th Feb,2012. However, most of the jobs are still not completed by December. So, the project director is very worried about the progress and it leads to a profession development. It includes the increase of number of meetings, the initiative of each of the team leaders, qualities of the performers. 

At the very beginning, the director deem that the slow progress may due to the reason that we don't have enough of time to reach consensus, thus, director force us to have 3 regular meetings every week. Then, even though it is almost unwilling for every staffs to have so many meetings a week. But the whole situation really be affected indeed. The progress is almost double the speed than before. It eases the our burden as well as directors'.

Besides, director encourage every team leaders to have more initiative as well. All the leaders are no longer feel alone as they got the support and motivation from their director. So, they are willing to take up more responsibility and thus life become easier since this.

Moreover, the qualities of the performance are greatly improved by increasing the time of practice and changing the performers. The performances are the main course of the event, thus, we need to improve it so as to attract as many tourist and audience as possible. 

For the model, I still finding as I cannot find a good one to describe my own work place. It will be uploaded once I find a good one^^

    Thank you for sharing the Professional Development in your workplace. I think your organization have a good director to make some decisions. So that the progress is faster and the members are become more initiative. So what is the biggest change do you think after this PD? ( You don't have to answer my question if you feel it has nothing to do with the topic and feel free to give me suggestion. Thank you!!!)
