What Professional Development happens in your workplace? 
What strategies does your organization have in place to encourage development, change and innovation?

My workplace put lots of resources to enhance staff’s continuous professional development. Human resources specialists will held meeting with department’s management to identity what trainings and skills would need for different department’s staffs.  Management suggestions are important as the management responsible for departmental strategic planning and thus they will know what are the upcoming projects and the skills required to complete it.
A training and development plan will send to staffs where staffs identify trainings they need, set the target completion date and return the form to training department.

The training department will plan the coming internal training event according management and staff suggestion. Staffs can find the latest training calendar at company website and enrol the training class through internal training registration system. Their training record such as attendance, result and relevant qualification are kept in the same system.
Besides internal training event, staffs can apply for funding to attend external seminars, conferences and workshops to enhance their professional development.

As the end of year, management staffs will review performance appraisal with subordinate to discuss whether any training or skills they need and provide suggestion to them.

Besides, we also has a company library where staffs can borrow books and magazine which related to their jobs. Staffs can also suggest new books to buy.

  1. Thank you for sharing the Professional Development in your workplace. I think you your organization have a good policy for staffs to get training. I see that the staffs in your organization can get many chances to improve themselves. So I just want to make sure about what is the change or innovation this PD has bring to the whole organization? ( You don't have to answer my question if you feel it has nothing to do with the topic and feel free to give me suggestion. Thank you!!!)

    And I want to know that the staffs in your organization , do they want to spend time in learning something new or have learn something under the pressure of leader or competition from their coworkers.

    1. Hi Milky,

      Most of my colleagues have speacial qualification such as green card which is only valid for certain years. When their qualifications will soon expire, they need to attend relevant training to extend these qualification. Otherwise, they cannot work on site. So the management do not need to force them to attend training as the qualification requirement is set by law.

      Refer to learning new skills, I must say most of my colleagues are keen on learning. Besides the qualification trainings I mention above, some of them would apply funding to join external seminar to learn new skills.
